Carey, a former top model in fashion who measured at nearly 5'10" was well-liked by American fashion houses like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father was a prominent geoscientist and was named Scientist in 1979 by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. As a result of his work, Carey was raised all over the world. After she graduated from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she began modeling on the side. This caught the eye of an agent from Ford Model Agency New York. She moved to France in 1980 and lived for a short time in Paris as well as Bordeaux prior to deciding to move back home to New York to continue with her studies at the college level and her modeling career and was soon appearing on the covers of Vogue, Glamour, etc. Between her modelling assignments she was enrolled in the study of literature at New York University. Her first acting experience was in a role alongside Robin Williams in the 1986 film 'Club Paradise. Her hobbies include skiing, white-water rafting, wind-surfing and climbing rocks.
