Carey, a former top model in fashion who measured at nearly 5'10" was well-liked by American fashion houses like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father was a prominent geoscientist and was named Scientist in 1979 by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. As a result of his work, Carey was raised all over the world. After she graduated from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she began modeling on the side. This caught the eye of an agent from Ford Model Agency New York.
